Bari Wesna
We are an intercultural organization born from and for the indigenous peoples of the Amazon, deeply connected to their worldview, knowledge, and ways of life. We believe that regional development must be built from the territory, respecting cultural identities and strengthening the capacities of the communities that inhabit it.
It was established on February 25, 2015, according to SUNARP registration number 11116111, with an indefinite validity. Its main office is located in the district of Yarina Cocha, Coronel Portillo Province, Department of Ucayali. It is constituted as a private, non-profit association governed by the Peruvian Civil Code and registered with the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation through Directorial Resolution No. 012-2023/APCI-DOC.
We work to empower local leaders, promoting the active participation of Indigenous women and youth in decision-making processes. Through intercultural dialogue, we foster initiatives that promote good living, respect for collective rights, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Our commitment is to protecting the Amazonian ecosystems, not only as a source of livelihood for indigenous peoples but also as a natural heritage for all humanity. Using a participatory and community-based approach, we articulate actions that integrate development, social justice, and environmental stewardship in the context of global challenges.
MISIÓN
We work alongside Amazonian Indigenous communities to strengthen their capacities, protect their territories, and promote development based on cultural identity. Our approach is based on respect for the Indigenous worldview, intercultural dialogue, and the active participation of local stakeholders.
We promote projects that contribute to ecosystem conservation, sustainable forest management, and the reforestation of degraded areas. Through community activities, we restore affected landscapes and promote productive practices that respect the natural and cultural balance of the territory.
We also develop training, leadership, and empowerment spaces for Indigenous women and youth, recognizing their key role in protecting the environment and transmitting ancestral knowledge. We believe in a collaborative work model, rooted in the territory, that unites traditional knowledge and sustainable solutions for collective well-being.
